The Foundation Stone of IISER Tirupati was laid on 28th March 2015 by the then Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Smt. Smriti Irani at Yerpedu Mandal, about 30 km from the city centre along with that of IIT and IIIT
Tirupati is chosen as one of the 100 cities to be developed under the ‘Smart Cities Mission’ by the Govt. of India, the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER)-Tirupati is one such Institute that has been administered and set up by the Ministry of Education, previously known as the Ministry of Human Resource Development along with another Institute, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Tirupati, on the Science and Technology front.
Over these eight years, the Institute has grown in number, with around 1000 students and about 60 faculty members at present. IISER Tirupati is proud to have achieved an almost equal gender ratio through the years, among students.
Programs Offered by IISER include Integrated BS-MS, Integrated Masters’ and PhD program, Full PhD program, Post-Doctoral-Research. Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Climate Sciences, Mathematics and Physics are major disciplines in IISER though various multi-disciplinary researches take place here.
With 8500 books, 2000+ e-journals, 9 databases, 22 print journals and magazines and on-line accessibility, the Library stands as a host to references, reading and supporting the research at IISER.
The Faculty of IISER and PHD scholars excel in research publications bringing an amazing citation index and also Principal investigators to Central government funded projects and collaborative research projects with universities abroad.
Students’ wellness is ensured with many clubs and activities which recreate and refresh the young minds apart from sincere dedication to the science education. The Foundation day every year is celebrated with re-dedicating themselves to the Science education and research by IISER-Tirupati faculty and students.
