Research Interests

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Koli works in the field of activation of biologically important small molecules like O2, NO, CO, CO2, and H2S, etc. with transition metal ions to mimic in-vivo enzymatic system which is responsible for various biological reactions. He is broadly working in the following research areas.

  • Synthesis and characterization of Metal-Nitrosyl, Metal-Carbonyl intermediates, their various biological applications, reactivities with different Oxygen Active Molecules and the mechanistic insights
  • Synthesis and characterization of metal-oxygen intermediates like Metal-Oxo /-Peroxo /-Superoxo and their reactivity with different substrates to explore the catalytic activities such as Substrate Oxidation Reactivities (Epoxidation, C-H activation etc.) and reaction mechanisms.
  • Biosensors for selective and sensitive detection of biologically important molecules like O2, NO, CO, CO2, and H2S, etc. and their biological applications.
  • Insight into the reactivity of Metal-Nitrosyls with Reactive Oxygen Species M(OO) /M(OO.) /M(O)
  • Metal-Peroxynitrite reactivity (Formation and decomposition) and establishment of mechanistic approach of Nitric Oxide Dioxygenation reactions.
  • Looking forward to achieving the goal in the sphere of Catalysis, Biosensor, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Water Splitting or/ water Oxidation, DNA Binding, Nuclease activity and Anti-Cancer drug development, with full efforts to learn and utilize the best part of the experience in an efficient manner.

Educational and Professional Career

Dr. Pankaj completed his Ph.D. in 2013 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. He was a Postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Biomimetic Systems, Department of Chemistry and Bioinspired Science, Ewha Womans University from 2013-2016. Later he moved to M. M. University, India to work as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry from 2016-2017. Presently, he is an Assistant Professor in the institute since June 2017.
